Secure Locking Mailbox

What is the reason behind the Post Office having large secure locking Locks Change Bramptonmailboxes that are so large? The answer is to ensure enough security. This is the same reason that you will require not just a locking mailbox but a secure locking mailbox as well.

This will go a long way in ensuring that individuals with bad intentions have been kept away from taking your mails. It is alarming how the identity theft business has thrived both to those individuals out there who are in the business of stealing it and those who are in the business of preventing it.

However, there are several methods of preventing one’s information landing on the wrong hands. One of this is ensuring that you paper shredder your letters to ensure that they are completely destroyed and the second one is getting yourself a secure locking mailbox.

The following are some of the things that you should look for when searching for a secure locking mailbox.

  • Ensure that you get yourself a large angled designed drop chute mailbox. This will ensure no one can access your mail once they are dropped into the mailbox so long as it is locked. Therefore the only person who will access your letters will be you. Moreover, due the large space it provides, it makes sure that even the long envelops as well as magazines fall out and are not left sticking out for the sticky fingers.
  • Moreover, a secure locking mailbox should have plenty of space. This is because sometimes you will be away for some days and it is therefore desirable that you have a mailbox that will not fill up and hence have your mail sticking out. Mailboxes that have letters sticking out defeat the purpose of locking them.
  • A good secure locking mailbox should be well constructed. It is important that a mailbox be well constructed in such a way that it looks good and that it also serves for many years. It should also be in a position to prevent break through.
  • A secure locking mailbox should have deadbolt locks. These kinds of locks are usually very difficult to pop up open in comparison to the spring type cheaper locks.
  • It is also important to ensure that you have quite a separate mechanism that will be responsible for the outgoing mails. Usually you should attach this outgoing mails clip to your outside door box.
  • For a secure locking mailbox you should try mounting them on a wall, post, or have a built one into a pier. To add to this you can build one on a pillar in order to match the house architecture.

There are many varieties of locks that range from very cheap spring rocks to high quality activated deadbolts that are a bit expensive. In addition to this there are various styles you can use to make your secure locking mailbox enjoyable to anyone and without necessarily attracting people to steal from it. It is also important that you remember that thieves just like any other crooks will look for the most unsuspecting as well as easy pickings. With this in mind then it is very important you get yourself a secure mailbox to get yourself out of that group.

Commercial Locks For Every Need

The job’s not done until the locks are on the door. A beautifully designed and Locks Change Vaughanquality built commercial building requires a variety of quality door locks. Careful selection should be made to install the best locks for entryways, fire doors, office doors, restrooms, utility closets and any other location within the building where access and privacy need to be controlled. Contractors should take time to discuss with the client the variety of locks available to meet their security requirements.

The exterior entrances of the building can be secured with a range of deadbolt locks.

Security needs will determine whether to use standard or heavy duty lock construction. Standard duty commercial deadbolts work well for office buildings. Heavy duty commercial deadbolts provide the best security. You should look for lock construction that includes a concealed wood frame reinforce that prevents kick-ins.

You’ll probably want to pair a cylindrical lock with a deadbolt to allow ease of entry.

Your choices include lever style locks and knob locks.

A heavy duty lever lock is suitable for hospitals, factories and even schools. Buildings with less stringent security needs may opt for standard or medium duty lever locks. Some lever locks are also UL listed for use on 3-hour fire doors. Knobs are the traditional doorknob design. These are also available in medium and heavy duty designs. Knob locks are typically reserved for interior doors of commercial buildings

Interconnected locks are an attractive choice for exterior doors of offices, hotels and light-duty commercial buildings. These locks are called interconnected because the handicapped compliant handles unlatch both the handset and the deadbolt when it’s depressed. The best interconnected locks have a reinforced deadbolt strike to prevent an intruder from kicking the door open.

Interior doors of the building can be secured with a mortise lock.

These locks are both attractive and functional. Heavy duty mortise locks are dependable and designed to withstand high-usage and abuse. This makes them ideal for hospitals and schools. When choosing mortise locks, look for designs that include a free-wheeling lever that resists force when locked.

No matter what types of locks are required in a building, most manufacturers will offer a variety of finishes that can be matched across all styles. This allows for a consistent aesthetic appeal throughout the building. Finishes typically include brass, bronze and stainless steel. Expect to pay from $40 for a simple cylindrical lock up to $300 for the finest mortise locks.

Key Control or High Security Lock & Key Systems

What is the risk? Key control, or more accurately the lack of key control is one of the Locks Change Oakvillebiggest risks that businesses or property owners face.

Without a key control system you cannot be sure who has keys or how many keys they have to your property. Not having a patent controlled key system leads to unauthorized key duplication, which leads to unauthorized access to your property or employee theft.

Most key control systems utilize patented keys and or cylinders, these lock cylinders employ very precise locking systems that can only be operated by the unique keys to that system. Because the cylinders and or the keys are patented, the duplication of keys can only be done by factory authorized professional locksmiths.

The key blanks and lock cylinders are made available only to those same factory authorized professional locksmiths. Procedures may be in place to allow you to contract with another security professional, should the need arise.

The control can be at the locksmith dealer level, at the distributor level, or at the manufacturer level.

All high security key control systems require specific permission to have keys originated or duplicated.

These procedures assure the property owner or manager that they will always know who has keys and how many. If an employee leaves and you get the keys back, you can be reasonably assured that no copies of your keys are floating around.

Most systems have cylinders that will retrofit existing hardware, keeping the cost of acquisition lower.

Some systems employ different levels of security within the system, still giving patented control, but not requiring ultra high security where it is not needed. These measures are again aimed at cost control.

Most systems can be master keyed, some will coordinate with existing master key systems. There are systems available that allow interchangeable core cylinders that will retrofit existing interchangeable core systems.

Locks Change Oakville can help you select the system most suited to your needs.

High Security Locks – Are They More Secure?

Everyone has heard the term “High Security Locks”, but what does that mean? What makes a lock high security and are they worth the extra money that you will pay for them? For this article I will discuss mechanical locks.

Let’s take a look at what makes a high security lock.

High Security Locks must be physically secure, this means that they must be made of high quality material such as hardened steel, stainless steel or boron steel. They must be able to withstand physical attacks such as drilling, prying and hammer attacks and they should have either a Grade 1 or 2 ANSI rating I discussed this in a past article. Most will be UL rated and listed.

These locks should have keys and keyways that provide “Key Control”.

This is usually accomplished by the manufacturer designing a keyway that is very unique and has a utility patent. The utility patent will describe how the key and keyway function together, it will describe how the key activates the pins or discs and if there is any other mechanism in the keyway that the key will activate. This utility patent is how the manufacturer and its distributors will control the keys. These are not keys that you can have made in a big box store, you will have to have them made by the manufacturer or its distributors and you will have to provide some identification and the original lock codes.

Here are the major points of high security locks:Locks Change Toronto
  • High measure of key control
  • Patented key, keyway and/or lock mechanism
  • Constructed of high quality materials
  • Pick resistant
  • Highly resistance to drilling, prying and hammer attacks

So, are these locks worth the price?

The answer to that question relates to what you are protecting. If you put a padlock on an outdoor shed then you probably do not need a high security padlock. However, if you are securing thousands of dollars of electronic equipment then yes the protection you get is worth the higher price. For businesses, hospitals and universities or colleges, high security protection should be the normal course of action.

What about your house, do you need high security locks on your house?

Again, look at what you are protecting. No, not your stuff, you are protecting your family, there is nothing more important to protect than that. So ask yourself: is your family worth the extra price that you will pay?

T-Handles – High Security Locking System

T-Handles were first invented for use on Vending Machines. Over the years many different manufacturers have found ways to use them on a wide range of products. There are two major parts, the pop out handle and the body. The majority are made of zinc alloy. Stainless steel is used for high security applications.

The T-Handle uses a standard vending lock to secure it closed.

When the lock is opened a handle pops out, this handle is either turned to open or it Locks Change Waterdownis rotated, unscrewing a locking bolt. Many different manufacturers make T-Handles, they are self-contained. The manufacturer of the device or machine builds the latching devices and incorporates them into their machines. When the T-Handle is installed into the machine it is connected to the latching or locking device, this creates a complete locking system.

As stated before the T-Handle is designed to accept standard vending locks manufactured by a variety of manufacturers in a many different security levels. The lock can be changed in a matter of seconds; therefor, the security level can be changed by changing the lock. Vending Locks from Cobra, Abloy and Medeco all have locks designed to operate in T-Handles. They provide different security levels all the way up to an electronic lock.

When looking directly at the front on the T-Handle there is a round hole that the lock will go into.

The vending lock has a latch toward the end of the lock. The T-Handle has square holes toward the rear of the pop out handle. When the lock is inserted into the T-Handle the latch will pop up and go into the square hole. This secures the lock into the handle. When the handle is pushed into the T-Handle body the lock latch extends into the square holes in the body and they match up to the square holes of the handle. This action secures the handle closed into the body. As long as the handle is in the T-Handle body it cannot turn. When the lock is opened it releases the latch and the handle pops out allowing it to operate.

Besides vending machines, T-Handles are used on gas pumps, cabinets, emergency vehicles, industrial tool chests to name a few. Some manufacturers can supply both the T-Handle and a variety of locks in different security levels. It is important that the correct type of T-Handle and lock match the application for the best security.

Biometric Locks – Know the Basic Facts About Them

The recent inventions of science and technology have certainly Locks Change Kitchenerbrought revolution in the world. The impact of the technology has been felt even in the minutest details of our lives. Obviously, it has been for good, to make our lives more comfortable. This is the case with carrying the locks. There is no need to carry separate locks and keys anymore. In fact, the time has come when you can open locks without any key at all. Well, the biometric door locks are nothing new; but, they are gaining in popularity at a rapid speed.

The greatest thing with the biometric locks is that they provide with a new level of interface that is extremely safe and easy. As a result of this, you are going to get rid of the irritating keys. Also, there is no problem regarding the secret PIN, RFID, magnetic strip cards, standard key and other things that you generally associate with lock and keys. Basically, the biometric locks identify the person with the help of his or her biometric properties. These properties are fed earlier to the machine and it will match these features to authorize a person. So, only the correct users can enter the system.

Well, the biometric locks have been there in the market for quite a while.

However, in earlier years, there seem to be two major demerits of this product. First of all, it was very expensive that took it beyond the reach of the common people. Another shortcoming was the visual design features. However, things have changed in recent times. Now, you will find the improved biometric locks at a really affordable rate.

There are different types of biometric locks.

This is because there are different biometric technologies to identify the users. Some of them use the fingerprint recognition technology. On the other hand, there are locks that use face recognition, voice recognition and even the iris recognition technologies. All of them focus on some of the unique features that each one of us possesses. However, it is upon the choice of the manufacturer that the biometric locks vary. All of them make sure that nobody can copy the features by some other means.

Certainly the biometric locks have created a lot of excitements.

Obviously, it is a great thing to experience your door opening just as you look at it. This is like a miracle. In fact, identifying the iris of every individual is a great thing to do. However, this is very effective. In fact, studies show that the nature of a person’s two irises is different. What is more the patterns of the iris never change. So, this is the ideal way to authorize a person.

This is a great step towards the enhancement of the security.

There is no fear of losing the ID card or forgetting the password anymore. Also, there is no fear of someone making a fake copy of it. In fact, this is precisely the reasons why the biometric locks are so much welcomed in areas of high security.

Magnetic Locks

Magnetic locks, like electric strikes, use electromagnetism to control the locking mechanism. They rely on electric power, whether from a building current or a battery, and as a result they’re as dependable as a refrigerator, TV, or bedside alarm clock (though like any other household appliance they can also be vulnerable to power failure). But because no key is needed to operate magnetic locks, mag-locks can’t be picked – and you’ll never be locked out because you’ve lost the key.

The core of a magnetic lock control system is an electromagnet made of advanced metal alloys.

When electric power activates it, the bolt slides in or out, up or down, along its U-shaped channel to lock or unlock the door. Some mag-locks also incorporate timing mechanisms that allow them to operate only at certain times – during business hours, for example. Others have “transaction memory,” which can record every use or attempted use. This function can be especially valuable with locks that use number-pads rather than coded cards: if an unauthorized person tries to gain access using incorrect codes more than twice, for example, the lock can automatically set off an alarm.

Magnetic locks work only with DC current, usually 12 to 24 volts.

Many systems utilize batteries to provide the power, but others are wired into the Locks Change Woodstockbuilding’s AC current, which is converted to DC by an internal transformer. Because the locking mechanism relies on the electromagnetic charge, mag-locks fail if the power fails, and the lock will open: they are fail-safe, meaning that they stop working if the power goes off. (Locks using AC power, like electric strikes, remain locked when the power goes out: they are fail-secure.) The best mag-lock designs use batteries, with converted AC current as a backup, or the reverse: they use the building’s AC current (converted to DC) with batteries for backup.

Whatever their power source, while access from the outside requires electric power, most magnetic locks can be opened from the inside without electricity, making egress in an emergency safe and reliable. One typical exception is in high-security applications like prisons, where both ingress and egress are controlled.

Magnetic locks are designed to read a variety of different coding mechanisms such as smart cards, proximity readers, and keypads. That versatility makes them ideal for both institutional or business use and for home use. If an employee is dismissed, for example, his or her magnetic code can be immediately deactivated, so that that single smart card no longer works. If a lock uses a numbered keypad, the coding can be changed quickly and easily, with the new code given only to those authorized. For home use, each family member can be given a different access code, making it easy to track when a delinquent teenager finally got home! The code can also easily be changed or deactivated if needed – in the case, say, of an intransigent former boyfriend or girlfriend, or an unfriendly divorce.

Another benefit of electromagnetic locks is that they’re silent.

When you are “buzzed in” to an apartment building, that buzzer signals that AC power is being used – it’s the sound of AC current passing through an electric strike. But if you hear only the soft click of the bolt being released, it’s the silence of DC power, most likely using a magnetic lock. Generally, though, the AC strike lasts only as long as you hear the buzzer; after that, the door relocks. For home use, the silent magnetic lock is generally preferred.

Bear in mind that, as an electric appliance, magnetic locks must be properly installed to ensure that they’re not susceptible to fire. Although Do-It-Yourself aficionados can install their own battery-operated mag-locks, it’s always best to use a professional installer, who will also know the local safety codes that must be followed.

Now, for those who worry about these things, the power consumption of a magnetic lock – even one using AC power and a transformer – is so minimal as to be unnoticed on your Con Ed bill. And there’s no reason to fear having a “residual electromagnetic aura” hanging around your front door: you won’t!

Re-Keying Door Locks – Padlocks and Cam Locks

So what exactly is Re-Keying and what does it mean to you? Re-Keying is the Locks Change Burlingtonprocess where the lock code and keys are changed. First, the new code is generated and the combination pins in the lock are changed to match the new code. Second, new keys are cut to match the new code and enable the operation of the lock. Third, the new code is registered to the end user.

Not all locks are re-keyable. Some are just too inexpensive to be cost effective, others are just not capable of the re-key process. Most “High Security” locks are capable of the process and in fact re-keying will cost about 30% of the price of a new high security lock.

Here are some reasons to consider Re-Keying:

  • Lost, stolen or misplaced keys
  • Moving into a new house or commercial business
  • Loss of key control
  • Expanding the locking system
  • Have more people that need keys then the available keys
  • Want to make sure you have a secure system and control of your keys
  • You what to go from a “Keyed Alike” system to a “Master” system

The type of lock will determine how this process actually works.

If you have cam locks or padlocks you would send those to a Lock Service Center. There the locks would be re-keyed to your specifications and new keys would be cut. If you have multiple locks and can’t send them in, then you could order a few new locks then do an exchange program where the locks you send in would be re-keyed to the new locks that you started the process with.

When re-keying door locks, again it depends on the type of lock cylinder.

If it is a SFIC (small format interchangeable core) cylinder it can be removed from the door lock and sent in to a Lock Service Center to undergo the same process as outlined above for cam locks and padlocks. If the cylinder is permanent then you must call out a locksmith who will be able to re-key the lock and cut the new keys while he is at your home or facility.

As stated earlier Re-Keying is a way to save money over the cost of new replacement locks. It is also a perfect way to gain back key control. Key control is knowing how many cut keys you have and where they are at all times.

The Benefits Of Electronic Keyless Door LocksLocks Change New Hamburg

How many times have you been locked out of your house? It’s not an uncommon occurrence – nearly everyone can recall at least one time they were stuck outside waiting for a locksmith, family member or friend to let them in. If you’ve ever spent time stuck outside in extreme hot or cold weather, you probably wondered what it would take to install a biometric door lock. These electronic keyless door locks have a number of benefits, but are they right for you?

Never Use A Key Again With Electronic Keyless Door Locks

Being locked out without a key is a thing of the past with electronic keyless door locks. These latches use fingerprints, number pads or even biometrics such as eye scans to open doors. One major benefit of these latches is that they’re easily opened without a key, as long as you have the right information programmed into the clasp. Another benefit is that a number key is easily shared with contractors, home repairmen or other service personnel. After the work is complete, it’s easy to reprogram the code to maintain safety.

A Biometric Door Lock Is Harder To Pick And Offers Additional Security

A biometric door lock is harder for a criminal to pick, ensuring your belongings and home will stay safe. Additionally, if someone does try to pick this type of security latch, it is difficult to break. These work as an excellent deterrent for criminals or anyone else who tries to break into your home.

Another benefit is that these can sometimes be wired into a security system, which can automatically call a home security company or even the local police department. This additional line of defense can help protect your home whether you’re inside with your family or not even at home.

Installation May Be Easier Than You Think

Many people are intimidated by installing biometric or fingerprint locks. While it’s possible to install one yourself, it can be a good idea to call a professional for help. A professional locksmith will be able to help you choose which types of biometric or fingerprint locks are best for your home and has access to each of the electronic keyless door locks that you have installed.

Sometimes people are concerned about the electricity needed to run these latches. However, many can run for three years or more with a single battery. If yours uses a battery, it’s not a bad idea to change it whenever you change the batteries in your smoke detectors.

A Number Of Styles To Choose From

There are a number of styles available so homeowners or business owners aren’t limited to a single style. Whether utilitarian or sleek and modern, fingerprint or keypad, there’s a latch for every home and business style.

Getting rid of that ring of keys can be a great experience.

When you use a keyless latch, you’ll never have to worry about being locked out and your home or business will have an extra step of security. If you’re interested in adding one of these to your home or business, consider installing one yourself or call a professional locksmith today.

The lock feature of almost any item is highly important to keep its content secure.Xpress Locksmith Burlington Be it for your house, your car, or even just your briefcase, locks are indispensable tools for security and protection. However, there are many instances when this protection can be compromised. Your lock can get broken, your keys may get lost, or you may forget a lock’s number combination. While these are problems that you can try to fix yourself, there is no true need to do so, as there are many companies offering locksmith services that will do it for you. These are expert services that will provide surefire solutions to any of your lock problems.

Far-Reaching Services

Locksmith services can be rather diverse, as they offer different kinds of services depending on a customer’s needs. Practically every sort of lock problem can be solved through calling a locksmith service provider. If you lose or break all your keys, a provider can pick your lock. They can also open your car trunk, start your car, or unlock your briefcase in the event of a lost key. Another service offered is the replacement of lost keys, which you can avail if you choose not to change your locks. Most providers can replace any type of key, so that is a bonus.

Locksmith service Anytime, Anywhere

Unfortunate events can happen to you anytime and anywhere. You can lose your car keys in the middle of nowhere or forget your briefcase key during an important out-of-town meeting. In both circumstances and other similar cases, a locksmith service provider can help you get out of the bind. Most providers are available for service regardless of your location, and all you need to do is call and wait for a locksmith to come to your place. Locksmiths can also be summoned anytime. Even during holidays or in the middle of the night, you can expect a locksmith service provider to attend to your immediate lock or key needs.

Convenience

Many refuse to call a locksmith service provider as they attempt to solve their own lock problems by themselves. While this may sometimes work, untrained individuals simply cannot compete with the services offered by professional locksmiths. As a matter of fact, handling a lock crisis on your own can have tragic consequences. Destroyed doors, ruined furnishings, and even physical injury may also result from not using a locksmith service provider. On the other hand, professional locksmith service allows the quick solution to any lock problem. With the help of an expert, unlocking your doors, changing your locks, or duplicating your keys will be a breeze. It is guaranteed that there will be no time wasted and definitely no doors broken.

Guaranteed Solution

A promise that only a locksmith service can give is the guaranteed solution to whatever lock problem you may have. As mentioned, the job is carried out by trained professionals who are all well-prepared to pick a lock or duplicate a key. Because of their extensive experience and intensive training, locksmiths from recognized service providers can bring you absolute solutions to all your lock problems.
